Entry rules for submission

The Norfolk Society for Cemetery Conservation - NSCC will be accepting entries for the 2020 Norfolk’s Historic Cemeteriescape Photography Contest & Exhibit from February 19-March 19, 2020. The 1st place, 2nd place and Board Choice winners will be on display at a reception at Slover Library and all photos will be placed on the digital media wall on April 3, 2020 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Norfolk’s Historic Cemeteriescape is designed to raise awareness of the historical, artistic, and cultural value of Norfolk’s historic municipal cemeteries. All funds raised are dedicated to conservation projects in Norfolk's municipal cemeteries. NSCC invites the public to submit photos using the entry form and following the criteria below:


  • Photos must be cemetery related and taken within any cemetery located in the Hampton Roads area. Photos may be in black and white or color. No photo collages or other forms of artwork will be accepted into the exhibit. You may submit as many photos as you like. Submission fee is $20.00 per photograph.

Please follow the steps below:
  1.  Pay for your photo submission through PayPal. You may use your credit card through PayPal if you do not have a PayPal account. See the link at the bottom of this page.

  2. Make sure that the name on the entry form is the same person who is paying for the submission fee(s) or PLEASE make note of person paying for the submission fee in your email when you send the entry form and photo submission.

  3. Send photo(s)s & entry form(s) to susan.platt@norfolk.gov in the same email if possible. You can include up to 6 entries per entry form.  THE ENTRY FORM IS A FILLABLE PDF. YOU MUST SAVE BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE PDF!

  • Save digital files in jpeg format at 96 dpi to 200 dpi and 1600 to 3200 pixel width. Title each image with: Last name, first name, and photo title. Payment for entries must be paid using the PayPal link at the bottom of this page (OPENS 2/19/20). Only paid submissions will be judged and displayed. 

  • NSCC retains the rights to your submissions for future use and sale of photographs.

  • Prizes: $500 for Best in Show; $250 for 2nd place; $50-gift card Board Choice Award.

  • All photographs will be displayed on the Slover Library Media/Digital Wall. NSCC will print/mat and display award winners at the NSCC reception to be held at the Slover Library.


NSCC and/or the Norfolk Department of Recreation, Parks & Open Space, Bureau of Cemeteries are/is not responsible for lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected or illegible submissions.  By entering the contest entrants grant NSCC the right to publish, use submitted photos in print or electronic form for advertising &/or promotion of NSCC, and for commercial products, including, but not limited to NSCC publications.  Submissions not conforming to the above guidelines will not be considered.  NSCC board members, advisor, staff and their family members may not enter this contest.
